Three ponds, stream and large waterfall
Location: Wollaton
This large pond renovation was complicated as they all link via stream and waterfalls. I had to work with what was already existing as the pond previously had been concreted in. This made the renovation awkward and hard to fully seal certain areas of the large waterfall due to a shear drop on the top side. However the final product looks amazing and everything has been sealed as much as possible to reduce water loss. This can be a common problem on waterfalls with large sandstone, however most of the time water loss is so minimal topping up with fresh water is only a little more frequent than a pond without a waterfall system. Doing ponds and waterfalls from scratch won't loose water but pond and waterfall renovations can be difficult trying to fix a problem that can't be solved due to certain situations, sizes and levels of the land and ponds. Even with the complex problems with this project it still works and looks great.

This garden was originally all lawn. Now completely transformed into a wildlife garden with a wildlife pond, rockery, trellis and archways. Different shaped beds were used to create flow and interest. Also a makeshift bench was created out of reclaimed bricks from digging out the pond and a wildlife mound in the corner was created. Landscaped beds and raised bed
Location: Bramcote
The purpose of this project was to create new borders and interest within an empty space that was once old conifers. A planting plan was designed for colour throughout the year and different cobbles and slate were used to finish off the area. Existing stone was used to create a raised bed. These additions really make the garden on the whole look more complete. Bee loving plants were used for the wildlife aspect but this project was more to please the customer and was designed to their needs. Just need to grass to grow in the soil areas now!

Wildlife Pond
Creation of a pond with nature in mind
After chatting to the client whilst doing some general gardening and maintenance, Jack learned that they wanted to attract wildlife into the garden and have a space to relax for themselves. A pond was the solution suggested and with their agreement, the objective was to create a pond from the reclaimed rockery stone, that is pleasant to look at and attractive to wildlife too.
Reusing the stone aided the sustainability and cost of the project and the client was thrilled with the outcome. They particularly commented on how pleased they were with the project being completed within two half-day sessions.
Jack has now planted the border of the pond and two other beds with wildlife attracting plants, bedded in with high quality, organic manure. -
Westdale Junior School Wildlife Pond
Location: Mapperley, Nottingham
Jack was contacted by the school as their wildlife pond was in need of a new life. To transform this space, Jack resized and relined the pond, added cobbles, aquatic plants and more, but involved many reclaimed materials too. By also creating a seating area, this pond can now be used as an important learning environment for the children. Jack hopes the space encourages them to connect with nature, engages them in conservation and offers them a calming place. As it establishes, the pond will attract a variety of wildlife for the pupils, teachers, visitors and parents to enjoy.

Paved Garden Redesign & Pond Creation
Location: Beeston, Nottingham
Transformation of a totally paved back garden in Beeston, Nottingham
Transforming a paving-covered, shady garden can be challenging but Jack was able to add life and interest into this space, after creating a bespoke design for the client. Ponds are always welcomed by Jack so removing some slabs and digging out the pond were his priorities. Adding different plants has added colour and texture that will only get better with time. Prior to redesigning the garden, wildlife would not have been attracted to the space, but as the pond and planted area continues to establish and mature, wildlife will not be able to keep away! The textures, colours and gentle sound of water running down from the higher, smaller pond into the larger will help to calm those enjoying the garden... showing the positive impact that gardens can have on people too. Further planting, the seated arch and blue wall were the final pieces to this transformation. -
