Woodland Stairway
Location: Sandicliffe, Nottingham
Originally, this was a dangerous walkway that an elderly client wanted making safe and functional, so a total of ten stairs were made with slabs and reclaimed materials. A natural wooden bannister was created with large tree stakes and natural holly wood - these gave a nice alternative to metal rails. Now the area has some personality and is a lot safer to walk through the woodland garden.

Rockery, Path and Borders
Location: Shipley, Derbyshire
The aim of the project was to improve the rockery and create a usable space that was once housed the client's sheds.

A lot of clay had to be removed and drainage channels were added in the beds to avoid previously standing water. A hole and arch were made within the partition fencing to allow connectivity between the rockery and the new beds. The shapely path now flows through the opening with surrounding beds, giving the space a creative, flowing look, complemented by a complex planting scheme that involves wildflowers and bulbs throughout the rockery and beds.
Please note that this project was completed in bad weather, mid-November. -
Creative Meditation Wildlife Garden - Mapperley, Nottingham
Jack was given creative freedom with this project, where the brief was to design a landscaped, wildlife garden and is a great example of a medium sized transformation. Different rocks, cobbles and unique features including hazel fence, garden arch and bird bath create an overall flowing, peaceful garden with lots to look at. The space was partitioned with hazel fencing and a garden arch to have a clear separation of the meditation garden leading along the path to a wild, rugged slate rockery by an old greengage tree. The meditation garden is a small space but now, you can spend hours there.

The customers were ecstatic with how quickly the garden was transformed- they kept commenting every day on how much progress we were making. They also mentioned how they feel like they have "two gardens in one".
Even though lots of materials were involved, this kind of garden is very cost effective for people wanting an alternative to hard-standing areas. Aggregates are much... -
Bespoke Slate Rockery Creation
Location: Beeston, Nottingham
The garden had limited interest before the design, apart from the acer and the hedging of mature blackthorn. A dangerous honey fungus had spread and killed the previous plants in this garden so Jack resolved this issue before creating this beautiful, bespoke slate rockery. Perennials, bulbs and shrubs with a white, blue, pink and purple theme were used to brighten up the garden and compliment the slate. A copper beech hedge has also been planted which will emphasise the different parts of the garden, add height behind the rockery and contrast well with the slate. The hedge will also provide a central point for birds so they feel safe in the garden. The large potted crab apple gives unusual fruiting interest along with the blueberry bushes that are within the rockery. The final touch of adding the arch provides space for climbers to flourish, leads you up the steps and through the garden. Now that the grass has grown and more plants have been added, this garden is totally transformed.

Location: Caythorpe, Nottingham
Creating this wildflower meadow in Caythorpe, Nottingham was done in two stages: preparing the land followed by sowing the seeds.

The response to this project has been extremely positive; the client informed J.K Conservation Projects that they had seen a noticeable increase in the number of field voles and damselflies in particular. The density of wildflowers has truly provided a great habitat that not only benefits bees and butterflies.
With thanks to 38 Degrees - a fantastic petition website encouraging positive change, who provided several packs of wildflower seeds used on this project. -

Hazel Fencing
A client in Sherwood, Nottingham needed to stop dogs entering their garden, from the footpath on the other side of the hedge. Rather than using wooden panels or bricks, we agreed that Hazel fencing created an effective, attractive and natural boundary. Another benefit of this fencing, is that wildlife (such as hedgehogs) can move through much more freely than typical fencing.

Chellow Mount - 3/4 acre plot in Beeston, Nottingham
J.K Conservation Projects worked for this client for four years, ending in 2019; the amount of space has allowed the redesign of the rockery, improvement to the soil and an increase in biodiversity. Seeding and planting various flowers, shrubs, trees and hedges has also been a key part of the work here. Jack continues to contribute to ideas within this garden and completes the general maintenance such as mowing, weeding, pruning and clearing.

The rockery started very rough and bare, filled with weeds and ferns scattered throughout. The reason for overhauling and redesigning the rockery was to create a rustic, striking space with lots of colour to attract many species of bees and butterflies. Wildflower seeds were also sown all through the rockeries, to further encourage bees and butterflies into the garden. To create a colourful, seasonal display throughout the rockery, a lot of consideration was put into the planting of the bulbs. A mixed hedge was planted to increase biodi... -
Tudor House - Design and planting of a front garden in Wollaton, Nottingham.
For this project, the front garden was redesigned from bland and boring to bright and bold. Additionally, in the back garden, an old pond was transformed into a beautiful rose garden.

Originally, a red robin hedge stood in the front garden so some were removed to make way for more colourful, bee-attracting beds. To create a blooming garden that was still uniformed, a square lavender border was created. Grass was then seeded around it, with a large pebble stone display made in the centre. Ornate pots were positioned parallel to keep a neat, symmetrical look. Jasmine was grown up the post to give fragrance near the front door, which the client thought was a lovely touch. Plants grown from seed were planted around mature plants, to ensure the borders will look attractive the following year. The pond also needed some work so lilies were planted along with oxygenating plants to balance the water quality. -
Wheelchair Friendly Wildlife Garden - Transformation of a back garden in Wollaton, Nottingham
Creating a garden that is wheelchair friendly and easy to maintain was the purpose of this total redesign project. The client also wanted to reduce the use of pots, whilst incorporating her existing plants and adding more.

Jack designed the garden and oversaw the building of the path and raised beds to ensure the integrity of the design was upheld. Once these were built, Jack planted up the garden beds, redid the borders and arranged the pots. The smooth path snaking around the garden means it is accessible for all, with the beds being at a perfect height for everyone to see and smell the flowers. Another bonus is that the height of the beds reduces the amount of bending for the client, making it ideal for any age. Once planted, the client was ecstatic about the increase of bees and butterflies in her garden, plus the vibrant colours and pleasant fragrances.
My client was overjoyed with the effectiveness of the design and increase of bees and butterflies, due to the varie...
